Writeup from MB 104:
Northwest Africa 10307 (NWA 10307) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2015 May Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite, monomict) History: Purchased by Fabien Kuntz in May 2015 from a dealer in Erfoud, Morocco. Petrography: (A. Irving and S. Kuehner, UWS) Fresh fragmental breccia containing some ophitic eucrite clasts (one large clast measures 1.7 cm × 1.5 cm), but mostly composed of related mineral fragments (predominantly calcic plagioclase and exsolved pigeonite). Accessory minerals include silica polymorph, Ti-chromite, ilmenite, troilite and zircon. Geochemistry: Low-Ca pyroxene host (Fs55.3Wo6.6, FeO/MnO = 32, N = 1), augite exsolution lamella (Fs29.3Wo39.6, FeO/MnO = 32, N = 1), augite host (Fs29.2Wo40.0, FeO/MnO = 29, N = 1), low-Ca pyroxene exsolution lamella (Fs57.3Wo6.2, FeO/MnO = 29, N = 1), pigeonite (Fs55.9Wo7.4, FeO/MnO = 31, N = 1), augite (Fs33.6Wo37.6, FeO/MnO = 38, N = 1). Classification: Eucrite (monomict breccia). Specimens: 17.17 g including one polished thin section at PSF; remainder with Kuntz. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
