Northwest Africa 10412 (NWA 10412) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2009 Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H4-6) History: One stone weighing 22.6 g was found in Morocco in 2009. David Holden acquired the sample from a meteorite prospector in Erfoud 2009. Physical characteristics: The stone is dark brown and has a rounded-irregular shape. The stone is covered by a weathered patina. The stone is friable and the cut face of the interior of the stone is dark in color and displays small chondrules, chondrule fragments, dark clasts and weathered flakes of metal. Petrography: Description and classification (A. Love, App): Sample is a breccia and composed of distinct chondrules and fragments, recrystallized chondritic clasts devoid of visible chondrules and shock-darkened fragments. Many chondrules are defined and and have an average diameter of 0.46±0.20 mm (N=66). Geochemistry: (A. Love, App): Olivine Fa19.5±1.3, N=12; Low Ca pyroxene Fs17.8±1.9Wo1.6±0.2, N=8. Classification: Based on poorly equilibrated compositions of olivine and pyroxene and textures this is an ordinary chondrite breccia (H4-6, S2, W1). Specimens: An endcut and one slice weighing 7.34 g, and a polished thin section are currently on deposit at App. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
