Zufar, Oman

Find: 2014 Feb 9

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H3)

History: Found by Edwin Gnos, Beda Hofmann, Thomas Burri, and Marianna Mészáros during a search for meteorites on February 9, 2014.

Physical characteristics: Dark brown individual without fusion crust.

Petrography: (B. Hofmann, NMBE and E. Gnos, MHNGE) Mean chondrule size 0.73±0.30 mm (n=53).

Geochemistry: (Å. Rosén, Bern) Olivine: mean Fa19.1±2.4 (Fa13.0-26.2, n=44); pyroxene (n=27): Fs16.4±3.0Wo1.7±1.0 (Fs12.8-29.4Wo0.4-5.1).

Classification: Based on mineral compositions this is an H chondrite of petrologic type 3, shock grade S3, weathering W3.
