Writeup from MB 105:

Northwest Africa 10328 (NWA 10328)

(Northwest Africa)

Find: 2015

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L5, melt breccia)

History: Reportedly found in Morocco, 2015 and purchased by Dave Gheesling fom Rachid Chaoui in early 2015.

Physical characteristics: Single stone with weathered fusion-crusted exterior. A saw cut shows a breccia of ordinary chondrite clasts set in a matrix of dark, fine-grained material.

Petrography: (C. Agee, UNM) Microprobe examination of a polished mount shows many fragmental L5 clasts, bounded by fine cataclastic to recrystallized grains, and pervasive quenched melt throughout this brecciated sample. L5 clasts contain numerous distinct chondrules with plagioclase up to 20 μm. Metal and sulfide are concentrated as domains up to 2 mm, but also ubiquitous as finely disseminated grains ~1-5 μm.

Geochemistry: (C. Agee and N. Muttik, UNM) Olivine Fa25.5±0.5, Fe/Mn=51±3, n=6; low-Ca pyroxene Fs21.7±0.2Wo1.0±0.2, n=5; high-Ca pyroxene Fs11.8Wo32.6, n=1.

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L5, melt breccia) fragmental, L5 chondrite clasts set in a recrystallized melt matrix.

Specimens: 23.2 g including a probe mount on deposit at UNM, Dave Gheesling holds the main mass.
