Northwest Africa 10657 (NWA 10657) Zagora, Morocco Purchased: 1999 Classification: Ureilite (polymict) Petrography: The sample is a fragmental breccia dominated by mineral and lithic clasts of various ureilitic materials (olivine with reduced rims, pyroxenes, minor Fe,Ni metal, troilite, and carbon phases). Additionally, there are minor feldspathic clasts, dark (carbonaceous chondrite-like) clasts, and ordinary chondrite clasts. Geochemistry: For ureilitic clasts, olivine core compositions range from Fa10 to Fa25. Olivine rims are reduced as low as Fa1. Pyroxenes include orthopyroxene (Wo<5Fs14), pigeonite (Wo5-11Fs4-23) and augite (Wo38Fs6). Because of the polymict nature of the sample, the average compositions of minerals are not meaningful. Sulfides are mostly Cr-bearing troilite. Specimens: 18.5 g at TCU. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
