Northwest Africa 11001 (NWA 11001)

(Northwest Africa)

Purchased: 2016 May

Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite, unbrecciated)

History: Brahim Tahiri sent the stones to his partner Sean Tutorow in May 2016 for analysis.

Physical characteristics: The repository specimen has a brown fusion crust.

Petrography: Modal composition: ~50 vol% pyroxene with exsolution lamellae (~500 μm in size) and 50 vol% plagioclase (200-500um). Accessory opaques (oxides and metal). The metal has minor oxide rims.

Geochemistry: Pyroxenes: pigeonite Fs56.2±6.3Wo6.6±7.3 (n=10), augite Fs30.0±2.3Wo39.6±2.6 (n=10), Fe/Mn = 28 ± 1 (n=20). Plagioclase: An90.0±0.2 (n=15).

Classification: Eucrite, unbrecciated.

Specimens: 103.9 g at UWO, including a polished mount and thin section. Remaining mass with Sean Tutorow.
