Northwest Africa 8776 (NWA 8776) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2014 Oct Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CK3) History: Purchased by Stefan Ralew in October 2014 from a dealer in Erfoud, Morocco. Petrography: (A. Irving and S. Kuehner, UWS) Separated, well-formed mm-sized chondrules containing Cr-magnetite together with sparse CAI occur within a stained matrix. Other minerals are olivine (some with very forsteritic cores), orthopyroxene, clinopyroxene, intermediate plagioclase, plus minor barite, calcite and pyrite. Geochemistry: Olivine (relict core Fa1.2; predominantly Fa20.5-21.6, N = 4), orthopyroxene (Fs19.9-23.9Wo1.4-0.5, N = 3), clinopyroxene (Fs9.5Wo41.6). Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CK3). Specimens: 11.3 g including one polished thin section at UWB; main mass with Ralew. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
