Northwest Africa 11171 (NWA 11171) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2016 Classification: HED achondrite (Diogenite) History: The meteorite was bought in 2016 from a Moroccan meteorite dealer at a mineral fair in Hamburg, Germany. Physical characteristics: Small, fragile, individual without fusion crust. Petrography: The meteorite displays a greyish to slightly orange interior and shows a cumulate texture of blocky up to 1.5 cm sized orthopyroxenes. Minor phases include silica, chromite and rare metallic iron. Neither plagioclase nor olivine have been found in the section studied. Geochemistry: low-Ca pyroxene:Fs26.2±0.2Wo3.5±0.3, n=12, FeO/MnO=23-27 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
