Writeup from MB 113:
Dellys: classification

The Dellys medium octahedrite (Buchwald, 1975), hitherto an unclassified iron, has been analysed by Dr Akira Yamaguchi (NIPR) using LA-ICP-MS . The composition is 9.8 wt% Ni; 0.51 wt% Co; 43 ppm Ge; 22 ppm Ga; 0.4 ppm Ir; 1.7 ppm Au; 13 ppm As. This is consistent with the IIIAB chemical group. This is the same group as the Tamentit meteorite, found 1500 km away, but which Buchwald (1975) had suspected of being pairied. However, Tamentit's Ir content is distinctly higher (2.5 ppm) and Ni is lower (8.31 wt% Ni). IIIAB is a common classification, and the two meteorites are probably not paired.

Submitted by E. Jacquet, MNHNP.
