Northwest Africa 10105 (NWA 10105)

Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CV3)

Physical characteristics: The studied mass of 32 g (the type specimen) shows rather large chondrules and some relatively large white inclusions.

Petrography: In thin section, many chondrules of various kinds (BO, PO, POP; about 1 mm in apparent diameter), fine-grained, olivine-rich aggregates and CAIs are embedded in a fine-grained, dark brown matrix (roughly 40 vol%). The matrix is quite porous and rich in olivine. Fe,Ni-rich metal and troilite are less abundant; severe weathering has replaced about 50% of the metal by terrestrial weathering products. The shock stage is S2 due to the undulatory extinction and the lack of planar fractures in olivine.

Geochemistry: Chondrule olivine (mostly Fo95-100) total range Fo75.7-99.7, mean value Fo94.1±5.1, n=37; mean matrix olivine Fo45.3±2.7, n=20 analyses; chondrule low-Ca pyroxene (mostly Fs2-5) range: EnFs0.7-4.1Wo0.3-3.3, mean value En97.3±1.3, n=21.
