Northwest Africa 12308 (NWA 12308) Morocco Purchased: 2018 Classification: Enstatite chondrite (EL3) History: (Ziyao Wang) Purchased by Ziyao Wang from Fayssal Mezgouri during the China (Hubei) Mineral & Gem Show in Huangshi City in Sept 2018. Physical characteristics: (Ziyao Wang) 57.8 g brown-black round stone with recognizable chondrules on the surface Petrography: (R. Bartoschewitz, Bart) well-defined chondrules (0.2-2.4 mm, av. 0.7 mm) of various types and chondrule fragments are set in black matrix. Geochemistry: (R. Bartoschewitz, Bart, P. Appel and B. Mader, Kiel) Olivine Fa0.2±0.1 (n=3); pyroxene Fs1.3±0.7Wo0.3±0.1 (n=13); chromite CRAL100, FFM100; SiO2. Kamacite Ni=6.4, Co=0.6, Si=0.5 (n=32); troilite Cr=0.9, Ti=0.2 (n=19); alabandite Fe=13 (n=1) (all wt-%); daubreelite, oldhamite. Magnetic susceptibility log χ (× 10-9 m3/kg) = 5.45 Classification: Enstatite chondrite, EL3 (EL3a according to the scheme of Weyrauch et al., 2018).
