Northwest Africa 12315 (NWA 12315) Morocco Purchased: 2018 Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L4) History: (Ziyao Wang) Purchased by Ziyao Wang from Naji Ben Faraji in Laayoune, Western Sahara, Oct. 2018. Physical characteristics: (Ziyao Wang) One 166 g stone of irregular shape, fresh black fusion crust presents well developed flow lines. Petrography: (R. Bartoschewitz, Bart) well defined globular, elongated and highly deformed chondrules (0.3-2 mm). Matrix with irregular metal and sulfide patches and veins. Metal veins bearing individual chondrules (0.4-1 mm). Geochemistry: (R. Bartoschewitz, Bart, P. Appel and B. Mader, Kiel) Olivine Fa23.6±0.6 (n=13); pyroxene Fs18.6±2.0Wo1.2±1.1 (n=7); chromite CRAL92, FFM90; ilmenite MgO=2.55, MnO=1.78 and FeO=41.9 wt.-%. Kamacite Ni=5.5, Co=0.9 wt.-% (n=4). Magnetic susceptibility r=3.56 g/cm³, log χ (× 10-9 m3/kg) = 5.21 Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L4, S4, W0) Specimens: 20.7 g on deposit at Kiel, Ziyao Wang holds the main mass, and 19 g with Bart. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
