Writeup from MB 108:

Northwest Africa 11952 (NWA 11952)

(Northwest Africa)

Purchased: 2005

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L3/4)

History: Purchased by an anonymous collector from a dealer at the Munich Show in 2005, subsequently acquired by the Hollis Collection and then donated to PSF.

Petrography: (A. Irving and S. Kuehner, UWS) Unequilibrated host lithology with rare equilibrated clasts. Host lithology: well-formed chondrules (apparent diameter 770±320 µm, some containing olivine with forsteritic cores) set in a matrix containing stained metal, merrillite and chlorapatite. One L6 lithic clast and one L7 lithic clast (completely recrystallized) were observed in the studied thin section.

Geochemistry: Olivine (core Fa7.1; Fa23.9-25.5, Cr2O3 <0.03 wt.%, N = 6), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs2.7-20.2Wo0.9-1.1, N = 3), clinopyroxene (Fs10.5Wo34.7; Fs2.8Wo45.6; N = 2).

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L3/4).

Specimens: The entire specimen including one polished thin section is at PSF.
