Northwest Africa 12414 (NWA 12414)

Morocco

Purchased: 2002

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L4)

History: Purchased with numerous other unclassified NWA samples from Marvin Kilgore in 2002

Physical characteristics: The meteorite is mostly covered by fusion crust and the rest shows weathering.

Petrography: The thin section shows chondrules of different textures and has a lithic fragment one edge.

Geochemistry: Avergae olivine is Fa 25.2.4±1.4 (n= 7); Pyroxene Fs20.7±2.6 Wo1.4 (n=7)

Classification: Ordinary chondrite L4 with a weathering grade of W2, and a shock stage of S2.
