Northwest Africa 12402 (NWA 12402)

Purchased: 2018

Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CO3)

History: The meteorite was purchased from a local meteorite dealer in Morocco.

Physical characteristics: Brownish individual without fusion crust.

Petrography: The meteorite shows a dark brownish to almost black interior and is predominantly composed of abundant chondrules (mean diameter about 200 μm), CAIs, and mineral fragments set into a fine-grained matrix. Chondrules are highly unequilibrated and sometimes surrounded by fine-grained dust rims.
