Northwest Africa 12460 (NWA 12460)

(Northwest Africa)

Purchased: 2018 March

Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite)

Petrography: Brecciated magmatic rock with subophitic texture. Main minerals are pyroxene (typical size 50 μm, exsolved) and plagioclase. Accessory troilite, chromite (to 250 μm), ilmenite, silica polymorph and FeNi metal.

Geochemistry: Low-Ca pyroxene Fs36.9±14.9Wo2.6±1.8, range Fs20.5-62.5, FeO/MnO=31.2±2.8 (n=11). Plagioclase An90.4Ab9.1Or0.5 (n=3). Olivine Fa39.2 (n=1). Chromite Cr# 0.83.
