Zufar, Oman

Find: 2014 Nov

Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CO3.1)

Petrography: Chondrite with small chondrules (~300 μm) set in abundant, fine-grained, iron-rich matrix. Opaques are FeNi metal and troilite.

Geochemistry: Olivine Fa16.0±15.2, range Fa1.4-44.6, Fa PMD 78% (n=13). Cr2O3 in ferroan olivine 0.25±0.17 wt% (n=11). Orthopyroxene Fs3.0±1.9Wo2.0±0.8 (n=5). Defocused matrix analyses: FeO 34.7 wt%, total 90.7 wt%. Magnetic susceptibility log χ (× 10-9 m3/kg) = 4.02.

Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CO3.1). Subtype from Cr2O3 content of ferroan olivine.

Specimens: Type specimen at CEREGE. Main mass with Kuntz.
