Dhofar 2097 (Dho 2097) 18°35.932’N, 54°04.634’E

Zufar, Oman

Find: 2014 Nov

Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CO3.1)

Petrography: Chondrite with small chondrules (~300 μm) set in abundant, fine-grained, iron-rich matrix. Opaques are FeNi metal and troilite.

Geochemistry: Olivine Fa_16.0±15.2, range Fa_1.4-44.6, Fa PMD 78% (n=13). Cr₂O₃ in ferroan olivine 0.25±0.17 wt% (n=11). Orthopyroxene Fs_3.0±1.9Wo_2.0±0.8(n=5). Defocused matrix analyses: FeO 34.7 wt%, total 90.7 wt%. Magnetic susceptibility log χ (× 10^-9 m³/kg) = 4.02.

Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CO3.1). Subtype from Cr₂O₃ content of ferroan olivine.

Specimens: Type specimen at CEREGE. Main mass with Kuntz.
