Northwest Africa 12485 (NWA 12485)

(Northwest Africa)

Find: 2018 Oct

Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite, melt breccia)

History: Bought by Jean Redelsperger from Mohamed Elguirah in Guelmin in October 2018.

Physical characteristics: Gray stones, some crusted, with brecciated gray interior.

Petrography: Melt breccia with lithic clasts made of low-Ca pyroxene and minor chromite set in a feldspathic melt rock containing small Ca-Px crystals. The melt rock contain sulfide droplets.

Geochemistry: Low-Ca pyroxene clasts Fs36.6±1.2Wo5.7±2.4, FeO/MnO 29.4±2.5 (n=4). Feldspathic melt rock An91.1Ab8.7Or0.3 (n=2). Chromite Cr#=0.81.

Classification: Eucrite-melt breccia.

Specimens: Type specimen at CEREGE. Main mass with Jean Redelpserger.
