Northwest Africa 12207 (NWA 12207)

(Northwest Africa)

Purchased: 2013 Feb

Classification: Ureilite

Physical characteristics: Ovoid, dark-brown stone with minor fusion crust. No caliche or rust on surface. Sample includes a polished thin section and billet.

Petrography: Predominantly olivine. The largest aggregate of low Ca pyroxene is 2 mm. Reduction of olivine is present near graphite rich regions. Modal abundances: olivine approx. 75%; low Ca pyroxene approx. 20 %; the remainder is graphite.

Geochemistry: Olivine: Fa16.4±7.2 (n=4); Olivine core: Fa21.1±0.2 (n=2); Olivine rim: Fa11.7±8.3 (n=2). Pigeonite: Fs13.9±4.3Wo6.1±3.1 (n=5). δ17O = 3.06 permil, δ18O = 7.90 permil, Δ17O = -1.05 permil.
