Northwest Africa 12479 (NWA 12479)

Sahara, (Northwest Africa)

Purchased: 2017 Mar

Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite, brecciated)

History: Purchased by Pierre-Marie Pelé

Physical characteristics: Crusted stone with grey interior.

Petrography: Brecciated igneous rock with variolitic texture. Mineralogy: pyroxene, plagioclase, troilite, FeNi metal, chromite, silica polymorph.

Geochemistry: Low-Ca pyroxene Fs60.9±1.6Wo7.4±3.5, FeO/MnO 32.0±0.4 (n=4). Plagioclase An91.1Ab8.7Or0.3 (n=1). Chromite Cr# 0.81. Magnetic susceptibility log χ (× 10-9 m3/kg) = 3.69.

Classification: Achondrite (eucrite)
