Writeup from MB 108:
Northwest Africa 12534 (NWA 12534) Algeria Find: 2018 Classification: Ordinary chondrite (LL7) History: Purchased in September 2018 by Matthew Stream and Kenneth Stream from Didi Baidari, who had purchased it previously from an anonymous dealer in March 2018 in Algeria. Physical characteristics: Dark brown stone with weathering veins around the exterior. Petrography: (Daniel Sheikh, FSU) Poikiloblastic texture with no chondrules. Microprobe examination of a polished section shows 70% olivine, 12% low-ca pyroxene, 10% ca-pyroxene, 4% sodic plagioclase, 3% troilite, 1% chromite. Geochemistry: Olivine, Fa29.4±0.7, N=16; orthopyroxene, Fs23.8±0.6W 2.9±0.6, N=8. Sodic plagioclase, An10±1, N=7. Oxygen isotopes (K. Ziegler, UNM): analyses of acid-washed subsamples by laser fluorination gave, respectively, δ17O 4.075, 4.009, 3.988; δ18O 5.462, 5.345, 5.288; Δ17O 1.191, 1.187, 1.196 per mil. Classification: Ordinary Chondrite (LL7). Completely recrystallized with no chondrules, Fa range and O isotopes consistent with LL. Specimens: 5.03 grams at UCLA; main mass with Matthew Stream and Kenneth Stream. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
