Northwest Africa 12541 (NWA 12541)

Purchased: 2019 Feb

Classification: Ureilite

History: Purchased in February 2019 by Darryl Pitt from a Mauritanian dealer.

Petrography: (A. Irving and S. Kuehner, UWS) Protogranular aggregate (mean grain size 0.7 mm) of olivine and pigeonite with accessory blade-like grains of graphite. Olivine exhibits unusually narrow reduced, more magnesian marginal zones accompanied by tiny blebs of Fe metal.

Geochemistry: Olivine (cores Fa15.5-15.6, N = 2; rim Fa7.1), pigeonite (Fs12.9-13.1Wo9.4-9.3, N = 2).

Classification: Ureilite.

Specimens: 6.9 g in the form of a polished endcut at UWB; remainder with DPitt.
