Northwest Africa 12569 (NWA 12569)

Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite)

Petrography: Breccia with coarse-grained clasts in a finer-grained matrix. The matrix shows a doleritic texture. The size of pyroxene in the clasts is up to 2.4 mm while those in fine-grained matrix is up to 1.8 mm. The dominant minerals of the meteorite are plagioclase and pyroxene. Accessory mineral includes chromite, troilite and metal. Exsolution of the high calcium pyroxene from the low calcium pyroxene can be also observed.

Geochemistry: Low-Ca pyroxene Fs59.5±0.9, Wo3.1±1.3, n=7, FeO/MnO=34.0±6.7, n=10; High-Ca pyroxene Fs27.6±3.5Wo42.7±3.4, n=5; Plagioclase An85.4±4.5, n=7 (EDAX).
