Northwest Africa 12570 (NWA 12570)

Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite)

Petrography: The meteorite mainly consists of pyroxene, plagioclase, silica, metal and troilite. The matrix shows a doleritic texture, in which two types of clasts can be observed. The size of pyroxene in coarse-grained clast is up to 1.8mm while those in finer-grained clasts is up to 1.4 mm. Exsolved pyroxene can be also observed. The silica polymorph (5 vol%) is mainly present in the fine-grained clasts.

Geochemistry: Low-Ca pyroxene Fs63.3±1.2Wo2.2±1.0, FeO/MnO=33.9±1.3, n=4; High-Ca pyroxene Fs28.9±1.5Wo43.2±1.4, Fe/Mn=34.2±3.0, n=4; (EPMA).
