Northwest Africa 12547 (NWA 12547)

Morocco

Purchased: 2019 Jan

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L3, melt breccia)

History: Purchased in Essaouira in January 2019

Petrography: (J. Gattacceca, CEREGE) Melt breccia with chondritic clasts supported by a melt rock matrix. Chondritic clasts are unequilibrated, matrix poor, metal rich. Chondrules average apparent size 830 μm (n=19).

Geochemistry: Olivine Fa10.7±9.4, Fa PMD 79%, range Fa0.7-25.5 (n=7), Cr2O3 0.09±0.08 wt% (n=6). Low-Ca pyroxene Fs12.3±7.9Wo1.1±1.5 (n=6).

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L3-melt breccia). L group from magnetic susceptibility and chondrule size.

Specimens: Type specimen at CEREGE. 0.73 g at ULB. Main mass with Kuntz.
