Los Vientos 290 (LoV 290) 24°38’0.9’’S, 69°53’37.9’’W Antofagasta, Chile Find: 26 Feb 2017 Classification: HED achondrite (Howardite) History: Found on granodiorite pediment surface by a three-person team. Physical characteristics: Cut face reveals light-gray interior with darker clasts to 5 mm. Petrography: (J. Gattacceca, CEREGE) Lithic and mineral clasts (to several mm) set in clastic matrix. Main minerals are low-Ca pyroxene, plagioclase. Other minerals: kamacite, ilmenite, chromite, troilite. Both diogenite (Fs22 to Fs32) and eucrite (Fs38 to Fs66) material is found. Eucrite material abundance is about 20 vol%. Geochemistry: Overall low-Ca pyroxene Fs32.5±9.7Wo2.8±1.4, FeO/MnO=33.0±5.1 (n=18). Diogenite low-Ca pyroxene Fs26.6±3.7Wo2.2±0.9 (n=12). Eucrite low-Ca pyroxene Fs44.3±6.6Wo4.1±1.4 (n=6). Plagioclase An85.7±6.9Ab13.4±6.3Or0.9±0.8 (n=6), range An75.7-93.3. Eucrite opthitic lithic clast: low-Ca pyroxene Fs65.7Wo2.9 (n=1), plagioclase An90.1±1.4Ab9.4±1.4Or0.5±0.0 (n=4). Classification: Achondrite (howardite). | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
