Northwest Africa 12731 (NWA 12731)

Algeria

Purchased: 2018 Oct

Classification: Rumuruti chondrite (R5)

History: Bought from Mohamed Elguirah in October 2018

Physical characteristics: Full stone covered by dull and fractured fusion crust

Petrography: (J. Gattacceca, CEREGE) Chondrite with recrystallized texture and average plagioclase size below 50 µm. Olivine is the ultra dominant silicate. Abundant sulfides to 200 µm, including pentlandite and pyrrhotite.

Geochemistry: Olivine Fa39.9±0.5, NiO=0.25±0.05 wt% (n=4). Plagioclase An7.5Ab86.5Or6.0 (n=2). Ca-pyroxene Fs 11.8Wo44.4 (n=1).

Classification: Rumuruti chondrite (R5).

Specimens: Type specimen at CEREGE. Main mass with Jean Redelsperger.
