Northwest Africa 12782 (NWA 12782) Morocco Purchased: 2018 Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CV3) History: (Ziyao Wang) Purchased by Ziyao Wang from Fayssal Mezgouri in Agadir, Morocco, Nov 2018. Physical characteristics: (Ziyao Wang) dark brown stone 92.5 g, without fusion crust. Many chondrules are visible on the surface Petrography: (R. Bartoschewitz, Bart) well defined chondrules (~60 vol%, 0.4-2 mm, av. 0.6 mm) of various types (PO, PP, RP) and CAIs/AOAs set in a brown opaque matrix. Metal occurs as small droplets inside the chondrules. Geochemistry: (R. Bartoschewitz, Bart, P. Appel and B. Mader, Kiel) Olivine Fa10.2 (0.8-16.2; n=16); pyroxene Fs12.1Wo1.4 (Fs1.5-25.7Wo0.3-4.4, n=15); chromite CRAL=86-96, FFM=89-93 (n=3). Kamacite Ni=3.5-4.5, Co=0.7-1.8 (n=3); taenite Ni=20-40, Co=0.5-1.0 (n=6) (all wt%); troilite. Magnetic susceptibility (R. Bartoschewitz, Bart) log χ (× 10-9 m3/kg) = 3.40 Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CV3) Specimens: 20.0 g at Kiel on deposit, Ziyao Wang holds the main mass and 9 g with Bart. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
