Northwest Africa 12784 (NWA 12784) Morocco Purchased: 2018 Classification: Iron meteorite (ungrouped) History: (Ziyao Wang) Purchased by Dezhao Feng in 2018 at the Tucson Show and sold it to Ziyao Wang in 2019 Physical characteristics: (Ziyao Wang) Long strip, similar to a cylindrical iron block 51 g Petrography: (R. Bartoschewitz, Bart) The polished and etched section shows a duplex plessitic texture with a homogeneously oriented sheen, resembling an indistinct Widmannstätten pattern, and contains a few globular troilites (<1 mm), schreibersite laths (<300 µm), and idiomorphic chromite (<100 µm). Minor internal terrestrial alteration along fractures. Geochemistry: (J. Day, Scripps) ICP-MS data, using sample of Coahuila as standard, 95 µm spots, n=4: Ga=0.4, Ge=0.4, Mo=9, Ru=3.2, Rh=0.6, Pd=3.5, W=0.4, Re=0.2, Os=2.2, Ir=1.9, Pt=3.6, Au=0.2 (all µg/g). S-ICP-MS: Ni=10.73, Co=0.65 (wt%). Classification: Iron, ungrouped (Co and Ga vs. Au do not meet any defined iron meteorite group) Specimens: 10.5 g on deposit at Kiel, Ziyao Wang holds the main mass, and 11 g with Bart. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
