Northwest Africa 12792 (NWA 12792)

Morocco

Purchased: 2019

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H5, melt breccia)

History: (Ziyao Wang) Purchased by Ziyao Wang from Sbai Mohamed at the mineral show in Wuhan in May. 2019

Physical characteristics: (Ziyao Wang) Many irregular red-brown stones, with a total weight of 20 kg. Some fragments show a shrapnel-like shape.

Petrography: (R. Bartoschewitz, Bart) few well developed chondrules in a strongly recrystallized matrix, with melt veins and clast-rich melt fragments. Metal and sulfide occur as irregular grains to drop like inclusions, and melt veins.

Geochemistry: (R. Bartoschewitz, Bart, P. Appel and B. Mader, Kiel) Olivine Fa18.5±0.3 (n=14); pyroxene Fs16.2±0.3Wo1.4±0.2 (n=7); mellillite; taenite; troilite. Magnetic susceptibility (R. Bartoschewitz, Bart) log χ (× 10-9 m3/kg) = 5.48.

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H5-melt breccia)

Specimens: 21.4 g on deposit at Kiel, Ziyao Wang holds the main mass, and 165 g with Bart.
