Northwest Africa 12739 (NWA 12739) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2019 Classification: HED achondrite (Diogenite) History: The meteorite was purchased from a local meteorite dealer in Zagora, Morocco. Physical characteristics: Single stone partly covered by fusion crust. Petrography: The meteorite is an achondritic breccia composed of two types of low-Ca pyroxene, olivine, and less abundant calcic feldspar. Minerals are up to 4 mm in size and embedded in fine-grained clastic matrix. Minor phases include silica, chromite, FeS, and metallic Fe. Geochemistry: pyroxene: Fs22.3.0±0.2Wo1.4±0.1 (Fs22.0-22.6Wo1.2-1.5, n=13, FeO/MnO=25-28); pyroxene: Fs29.7±1.8Wo2.8±0.3 (Fs28.1-33.9Wo2.6-3.6, n=12, FeO/MnO=30-33); olivine: Fa28.2±0.7 (Fa27.1-29.2, n=17, FeO/MnO=48±2); calcic plagioclase: An90.7±0.4 (An90.0-91.1, n=16) | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
