Writeup from MB 108:

Northwest Africa 12634 (NWA 12634)

Mauritania

Purchased: 2019 Jan

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L/LL3)

History: Purchased in Nouakchott in January 2019

Petrography: (J. Gattacceca, CEREGE) Chondrite with packed, well-delineated chondrules. Chondrule average apparent diameter is 740±390 µm (n=39). Olivine is zoned. Opaque minerals (Fe,Ni metal and troilite) are found as rounded composite grains. Metal abundance 5.1 vol% (point counting, n=316). Magnetic susceptibility log χ (× 10-9 m3/kg) = 4.71.

Geochemistry: Olivine Fa30.3±2.6, range Fa25.0-33.1, Fa PMD 6.4%, Cr2O3 0.11±0.14 wt% (n=11). Low-Ca pyroxene Fs13.5±5.2Wo1.5±2.1 (n=12).

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L/LL3). The meteorite has metal content (given by magnetic susceptibility and point counting) similar to L chondrites but olivine composition similar to LL chondrites

Specimens: Type specimen at CEREGE. Main mass with Kuntz.
