Northwest Africa 12766 (NWA 12766) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2015 Sep Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L6, melt breccia) History: Purchased by Darryl Pitt in September 2015 from a Moroccan dealer at the Denver Show. Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and J. Boesenberg, Brown) Breccia composed of rounded Type 6 clasts (W1) in a black, very fine grained matrix (W0/1) containing abundant tiny spherical grains of metal and troilite. The clasts consist of rare chondrules within a recrystallized matrix containing stained metal, troilite, merrillite and chlorapatite. Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa24.5±0.3 (range Fa24.1-25.0), N = 6), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs20.7±0.3Wo1.8±0.2 (range Fs20.5-21.1Wo1.4-2.1), N = 7), augite (Fs7.8±0.2Wo44.5±0.3 (range Fs7.6-7.9Wo44.7-44.3), N = 2). Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L6 melt breccia). Specimens: 28.1 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with DPitt. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
