Northwest Africa 12834 (NWA 12834)

(Northwest Africa)

Purchased: 2019 Feb

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H5)

History: Purchased by Beat Booz in February 2019 from a Moroccan dealer.

Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Moderately shocked breccia composed of closely packed clasts containing sparse, well-formed chondrules and relatively abundant stained metal. Silicates are noticeably shock darkened.

Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa20.0±0.3 (range Fa19.7-20.3), N = 3), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs17.1±0.2Wo1.3±0.1 (range Fs16.9-17.3Wo1.4-1.2), N = 3), high-Ca pyroxene (Fs5.2Wo47.0).

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H5 breccia, shock-darkened).

Specimens: 21.0 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with Mr. B. Booz.
