Bluewing 039        40°16.663’N, 118°56.800’W

Nevada, USA

Find: 2014 May 27

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H4)

History: Found in 2014 May 27 by Robert Verish, while he was visually searching the surface of the dry lake for meteorites.

Physical characteristics: Brown, orange-segment-shaped, weathered fragment, with chondrules standing out in relief in a friable matrix. Cut surface reveals a mottled interior in various shades of brown.

Petrography: (D. Sheikh, FSU) Composed of small to medium-sized chondrules (average ~0.35 mm) in a fine-grained matrix.

Geochemistry: Olivine, Fa17.6±1.1 (N=25); orthopyroxene, Fs15.7±1.3Wo 1.6±0.6 (N=25).

Classification: Ordinary Chondrite (H4)

Specimens: 8.4 grams at UCLA; main mass with Verish.
