Northwest Africa 12779 (NWA 12779) Morocco Purchased: 20 Apr. 2017 Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CK5) History: the meteorite was purchased in Morocco from Moroccan dealer, Aziz Habibi Petrography: (M. A. Ivanova, Vernad). The meteorite consists of coarse-grained matrix (~60%) and chondrules, their fragments and plagioclase-rich aggregates. POP, BO, PP chondrules are not well delineated. The meteorite contains olivine, pyroxene, plagioclase, Cr-magnetite, ilmenite, spinel and sulfides (pentlandite, pyrrhotite); Fe,Ni-metal is absent. Geochemistry: Feldspar composition: Ab20.7-81.1, An78.9-14.0; NiO in olivine - 0.77 wt%; magnetite (3.7 wt% Cr2O3, 1.9 wt% Al2O3) Classification: CK5 chondrite, S2, W4, based on minerals compositions and texture Specimens: 1 thin section and two pieces of meteorite (13.8 g and 2 g), 15.8 g in total are located at Vernad, the main mass is located at DMUH | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
