Northwest Africa 12812 (NWA 12812)

Purchased: 2001

Classification: HED achondrite (Diogenite)

History: The meteorite was purchased from a local meteorite dealer in Erfoud, Morocco.

Physical characteristics: Many greyish fragments without fusion crust.

Petrography: The meteorite displays a grayish interior and is predominantly composed of blocky up to 7 mm sized orthoproxene grains. Minor phases include calcic plagioclase, silica, chromite, FeS, and metallic iron. It appears unbrecciated in the section studied.

Geochemistry: low-Ca pyroxene: Fs27.7±0.6Wo2.9±0.6 (Fs26.4-28.3Wo2.5-4.7, n=12, FeO/MnO=26-32); calcic plagioclase: An93.0±0.7 (An92.2-94.5, n=12)
