Northwest Africa 12816 (NWA 12816) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2019 Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CO3) History: The meteorite was purchased from a local meteorite dealer in Algeria. Physical characteristics: Brownish fragment without fusion crust. Petrography: The meteorite shows a dark brownish to black interior and is composed of abundant small chondrules, CAIs, and mineral fragments set into a fine-grained matrix. Chondrules are dominantly porphyritic type I with a mean diameter of about 0.2 mm. Some sulfides and FeNi metal are present in matrix and chondrules. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
