Writeup from MB 108:
Northwest Africa 12670 (NWA 12670) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2018 Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CK3) History: The meteorite was purchased from a local meteorite dealer in Laayoune, Mauritania. Physical characteristics: Dark grayish to greenish individual with some fusion crust. Petrography: The meteorite is composed of well separated and sharply defined chondrules (apparent mean diameter about 700 μm) set into abundant matrix dominated by ferrous olivine, plagioclase, and Cr-rich magnetite. Minor phases include Ca-pyroxene and FeNi-sulfides. While olivine and pyroxene appear equilibrated in the matrix, they show strong compositional zoning in chondrules. Geochemistry: Fe-rich matrix olivine: Fa33.0±0.3, FeO/MnO=127±11, n=12; unequilibrated olivine: Fa16.0±13.8 (Fa0.1-33.3, n=16); low-Ca pyroxene: Fs13.4±11.7Wo2.2±1.3 (Fs1.3-29.4Wo0.7-4.8, n=15); Ca-pyroxene: Fs13.4±1.2Wo49.3±0.1, n=5 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
