Northwest Africa 12896 (NWA 12896) Morocco Purchased: 2019 Classification: Ordinary chondrite (LL3) History: (Ziyao Wang) Purchased by Jinji Li from a Moroccan dealer at the mineral show in Chenzhou in May 2019 Physical characteristics: (Ziyao Wang) brown yellow stone of 98 g, without fusion crust Petrography: (R. Bartoschewitz, Bart) well defined chondrules of 0.3-1.8 mm (av. 0.9 mm, n=22) set in abundant fine-grained brown-stained matrix with a few irregular, mainly oxidized, metal and sulfide aggregates. Geochemistry: (R. Bartoschewitz, Bart, P. Appel and B. Mader, Kiel) Olivine Fa19.4 (Fa6.2-32.6; n=28); pyroxene Fs13.2Wo1.4±1.4 (Fs0.6-33.9; n=12); chromite CRAL=99, FFM=87 (n=2). Kamacite Ni=5.0-6.6, Co=0.7-1.8 (n=3); taenite Ni=20-40, Co=0.4-1.8 (n=2) (all wt%); troilite. Magnetic susceptibility (R. Bartoschewitz, Bart) log χ (× 10-9 m3/kg) = 3.69 Classification: Ordinary chondrite (LL3) Specimens: 15.1 g at Kiel and 5.1 g at Halle on deposit, Jinji Li and Ziyao Wang hold the main mass, and 13 g with Bart. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
