Northwest Africa 12764 (NWA 12764)

(Northwest Africa)

Purchased: 2018 Apr

Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CO3)

History: Purchased by Beat Booz in April 2018 from a Moroccan dealer.

Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Small chondrules (apparent diameter 170±80 µm, N = 21), mineral fragments and fine grained CAI are set in a fine grained matrix (~40 vol.%, deep reddish-brown in thin section). Opaque phases are kamacite, taenite, troilite and chromite.

Geochemistry: Olivine, Fa24.2±21.3 (range Fa0.6-45.8, N = 5); low-Ca pyroxene, Fs0.9Wo3.3, Fs42.3Wo4.2; anorthite, An96.4Or0.1.

Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CO3).

Specimens: 20.5 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with Mr. B. Booz.
