Northwest Africa 12947 (NWA 12947) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2018 Oct Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L3) History: Purchased by Darryl Pitt in February 2019 from a Mauritanian dealer. Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Well-formed, closely packed chondrules (apparent diameter 780±340 µm, N = 24) are set in a sparse finer-grained matrix containing stained metal. Geochemistry: Olivine, Fa25.3±4.3 (range Fa20.1-31.5, N = 5); low-Ca pyroxene, Fs13.6±12.6Wo0.5±0.2 (range Fs3.7-21.7Wo0.2-0.8, N = 4). Magnetic susceptibility log χ (× 10-9 m3/kg) = 4.67. Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L3). Specimens: 25.7 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with DPitt. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
