Northwest Africa 12006 (NWA 12006) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2018 Apr Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite, brecciated) History: Purchased by Marc Jost in April 2018 from a dealer in Laayoune, Morocco. Petrography: (A. Irving and S. Kuehner, UWS) Breccia composed of at least five different varieties of lithic eucrite clasts exhibiting a range of textures, grainsizes and degree of shock set within a matrix of related debris and minor secondary calcite. Minerals present include exsolved pigeonite, calcic plagioclase (unshocked in some clasts, undulose to polycrystalline in other clasts), silica polymorph, fayalitic olivine, Ti-chromite, ilmenite and troilite. Geochemistry: Orthopyroxene host (Fs60.9-62.4Wo2.1-1.7, FeO/MnO = 33-34, N = 3), clinopyroxene exsolution lamellae (Fs27.0-27.3Wo42.8-43.6, FeO/MnO = 30-31, N = 2), fayalitic olivine (Fa81.2-81.3, FeO/MnO = 41-42, N = 2), plagioclase (An83.4-89.9Or1.2-0.4, N = 2). Classification: Eucrite (brecciated). Specimens: 27.7 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder held by SJS. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
