Caleta el Cobre 030 (CeC 030) 24°15’S, 70°31’W Antofagasta, Chile Find: 2019 Classification: Iron meteorite (ungrouped) History: Found in 2019 in the Atacama desert Physical characteristics: A single brownish mass. Cut surface reveals fresh metallic interior. Petrography: Etching of a polished section reveals a coarse octahedrite texture with net and cellular plessite. Geochemistry: (J.T. Wasson, UCLA): INAA data, Ni = 75.3, Co = 4.45 (both mg/g), Cu = 162, Ga = 27.0, As = 8.49, W= 1.12, Re = 682, Ir = 6.57, Pt = 8.66, Au = 0.95 (all µg/g). Classification: Iron, ungrouped. Ungrouped designation based on composition; no close compositional relatives among 105 other ungrouped irons. Specimens: Type specimen (28 g) at CEREGE. 17 g at UCLA.
