Northwest Africa 12918 (NWA 12918) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 19 mar 2019 Classification: HED achondrite (Diogenite) History: Purchased by Carlos Muñecas and Adrian Contreras on 19 Mar 2019 from a dealer in Guelmin, Morocco. Physical characteristics: Partially covered by a black fusion crust. Petrography: The specimen shows a cataclastic texture with large crystal fragments in a matrix of finer grains of the same minerals. Predominantly orthopyroxene accompanied by accessory olivine, clinopyroxene, anorthite, chromite, Ni-poor metal and troilite. Geochemistry: Mineral compositions and geochemistry: Orthopyroxene Fs24.6-25.7Wo3.1-4.0, FeO/MnO=28-34; clinopyroxene Fs10.2-11.1Wo42.9-43.8, FeO/MnO=20-22; olivine Fa25.8-27.6, FeO/MnO=49-50; plagioclase An77.7-90.9.
