Los Vientos 331 (LoV 331)        24°40.91897’S, 69°46.029’W

Antofagasta, Chile

Find: 2018 Nov 18

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H6)

Petrography: Chondrules and chondrule fragments are discernable but poorly delineated and chondrule fragments blend in with the recrystallized matrix. Metal accounts for 8 vol %. Metal grains average at 400 µm in length and show a preferred orientation. This is also seen in sulphides (~4 vol %). Approximately 50% of opaque grains show oxide rims and minor oxide veins are observed. Plagioclase grains are mostly 30-100 µm in length.

Geochemistry: Mineral compositions and geochemistry: All analyses by EPMA. Metal: predominantly kamacite, with 6.1 ± 0.8 wt% Ni and 0.48±0.05 wt% Co. Taenite is present with 33.3-50.88 wt% Ni, and 0.10±0.02 wt% Co. Olivine: Fa18.0±0.6 (N=42). Pyroxene: Fs16.0±1.1En82.9±1.2Wo1.1±0.3 (N=25).
