Danilovka 52°0.6’N, 44°58.65’E Saratovskaya oblast’, Russia Find: Jun 1995 Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L6) History: Single stone was found by anonymous person on the plowed field that belongs to Danilovka village. After the recovering the stone was kept in the backyard of the finder’s home up to 2019. Physical characteristics: The stone of 5660 g has faceted shape with broken surface from one side. The surface has patchy dark- to red-brown color. Fusion crust is partially preserved. Petrography: (C. A. Lorenz , Vernad) The meteorite is composed of fine- to medium- grained recrystallized olivine, minor pyroxene, troilite and feldspar with numerous recrystallized relics of chondrule fragments. The feldspar grains size is up to 120 µm. Accessory phases are FeNi metal and chromite. Olivine grains have irregular and planar fractures and demonstrate weak undulatory optical extinction. Occasional micrometer-sized pockets of silicate and troilite melt were observed in a single linear fracture crossing a whole section. Geochemistry: Mineral compositions and Geochemistry: (N. N. Kononkova, EPMA, Vernad.) Olivine Fa25.6±0.2 (N=5); orthopyroxene Fs20.5±0.2Wo1.7±0.3 (N=5) Classification: Ordinary chondrite of the chemical group L, type 6 (S2, W2) Specimens: A type specimen of 144.8 g and thin polished section are on deposit in Vernad. Main mass of 5.5 kg is in the private collection of Mr. Daniel Ashenbrenner. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
