Northwest Africa 13037 (NWA 13037) Algeria Purchased: 2018 Dec Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L3) History: Purportedly found near Djelfa, Algeria, and purchased from the finder by Naji Ben Faraji and Mohamed Brahim Sueilem in December 2018 in Adrar, Algeria. Physical characteristics: Very fresh specimen (465 g) coated by black fusion crust. Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Closely packed, well-formed chondrules (apparent diameter 780±350 µm, N = 22) are set in a sparse matrix containing stained metal. Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa22.0±6.5 (range Fa13.2-33.6, N = 18; Cr2O3 in ferroan examples 0.01-0.07 wt.%, mean 0.02±0.02 wt.%, N = 15), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs17.9±5.3Wo1.7±1.7 (range Fs9.9-23.0Wo0.9-4.3, N = 6), subcalcic augite (Fs11.7Wo22.8), augite (Fs14.6±7.4Wo37.6±3.0 (range Fs9.4-19.8Wo39.7-35.5, N = 2). Magnetic susceptibility log χ = 4.77. Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L3). Specimens: 27.6 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder held jointly by N. Ben Faraji and M.
