Northwest Africa 13117 (NWA 13117) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2019 Aug Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite, monomict) History: Purchased from a dealer in Zagora, Morocco, in August 2019 by Juan Avilés Poblador on behalf of the Earth Sciences Department at the University of Alicante, Spain. Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Monomict breccia composed of subophitic eucrite clasts within a matrix of related crystalline debris. Minerals are exsolved pigeonite, calcic plagioclase, silica polymorph, ilmenite, troilite, chromite and Ni-free metal. Geochemistry: Orthopyroxene host (Fs59.9-61.9Wo1.7-3.8, FeO/MnO = 32-33, N = 4), clinopyroxene exsolution lamellae (Fs26.0-29.2Wo41.7-44.4, FeO/MnO = 30-32, N = 4), plagioclase (An81.4-88.9Or1.0-0.4, N = 4). Classification: Eucrite (monomict breccia). Specimens: 20.4 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder in the collection of UAlic. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
