Northwest Africa 13189 (NWA 13189) Morocco Purchased: 2017 Mar Classification: Mesosiderite Physical characteristics: Brown irregular fragments. Petrography: (J. Gattacceca, CEREGE) This rock is composed of approximately 70 vol% silicates and 30 vol% metal (and associated terrestrial weathering products). The silicate fraction is composed mostly of pyroxene and plagioclase, with minor silica polymorph. Metal is found mostly as grains with smooth shapes and typical size 1 mm. Most metal is replaced by terrestrial weatheirng products. Metal and troilite are also found as µm size grains within silicates. Abundant veins filled with weathering products. Geochemistry: Pyroxene Fs36.8±1.7Wo7.1±3.0, FeO/MnO=27.2±1.8 (n=3). Plagioclase An91.2±1.5Ab8.7±1.5Or0.1±0.1 (n=4). Chromite Cr# 0.78.
